Heatwaves have become one of the bigger threats to residents and visitors, even in smaller towns. Among other things, the city council of Bern has launched an online map that points out shady places or fountains, and it has drawn up a plan for tree care. Also, it is supporting researchers at the Institute of Geography in setting up and maintaining a comprehensive measurement network to monitor temperature and humidity in Bern and the surroundings. However, the necessary measures that may be derived from this campain could in turn challenge certain political decisions: an interesting starting point for discussions. The guides will take you to a number of literally hot-spots Bern and tell you more about the particularities of urban climate in Bern.
